Why bank statements need true redaction

Landlords, lenders, immigration offices and accountants regularly ask for bank statements, and you often need to share only part of the page. Account numbers, routing details, employer names and spending history are all gold for identity thieves. Covering them with a black box in a PDF viewer is not enough: the numbers remain inside the file and can be copied out in seconds. Uploading the statement to an online redaction website is worse, because you hand the complete, unredacted file to a stranger.

How does the auto-placement work?

The tool reads the text on each page inside your browser and looks for patterns such as account number labels, long digit strings, date-and-amount rows and the word balance. If nothing matches, it places a box in the position where that information usually appears. The detection is a helper, so always review every page before you download.

Is the statement uploaded to a server?

Never. The PDF is processed entirely in your browser's memory. You can verify this by opening DevTools, selecting the Network tab and watching no requests happen while you work. The tool also keeps working with your internet turned off.

Is it safe to send the redacted statement?

With the default maximum-security option each redacted page is converted to an image with the boxes burned in, so the hidden numbers are not stored in the file. Always open the result and check that every sensitive value is covered before sending it.
