Why flatten before you share
A filled PDF form is still a live form. Anyone you send it to can click a field, edit your answers, or read values you typed and later changed because older entries can linger in the file. Signature fields and checkboxes can be altered after the fact, and some recipients' software will even re-calculate fields. Flattening converts your answers into permanent page content so the document becomes read-only and stable.
The Instant Form Flattener loads your PDF in the browser, writes every field value into the page itself, removes the interactive fields and the form dictionary, and drops legacy XFA form data that dynamic forms carry. Because it runs entirely client-side with pdf-lib, the application, tax return or rental form you are flattening is never uploaded. Your private details stay in your own RAM from the moment you pick the file until you download the result.
How to use Instant Form Flattener in 3 steps
- Drop a fillable PDF onto the upload area. The tool detects how many form fields it contains.
- Review the field summary, then choose whether to keep or remove the original form structure information.
- Click "Flatten & Download" to get a static copy with all values baked into the page.
Frequently asked questions
Will the flattened PDF still look the same?
Yes. Field values, checkboxes and text boxes are drawn into the page at the exact positions they had in the form. The only difference is that they can no longer be edited.
Does flattening make my PDF safe from copy and paste?
Flattening freezes the form but does not hide text. To remove sensitive content use the redaction tools. Flatten first for a stable document, then redact anything that should not be shared.
What about XFA or dynamic forms?
XFA data is stripped so only the standard form layer remains. If the PDF relies completely on XFA with no standard fields, the tool will tell you that no fields were found, because those documents have no static version to flatten.
